The First Haircut
My wife and I are blessed to have a total of 5 children in our beautiful family, including 3 year old twins. One boy, one girl….AKA….double trouble. Some of you may know them already, Cassius and Chloe. Anyways, Cassius has grown his hair out to the point it has somewhat become a pain in the butt for him. Sure it was beautiful, but it seemed as if he became annoyed with it. When playing with his cars or running around, he would always have to move it out of his face. So my wife Lynn and I knew it was time to take him to get it cut. So she asked around on Facebook and got some recommendations. We wanted a place that specialized in working with children and we were fortunate to get that.
It was recommended to take Cassius to a barbershop called Austin’s Barber Shop in Beloit,WI. I have never heard of it and neither has she but we trusted those who recommended it. Heck, they had an airplane in the shop for children to sit in while getting their hair cut and they’ve also been around for 104 years. So we called and made our appointment for Cassius and I to get our haircut. There were a few things we wanted to do….surprise my parents, let Cassius pick out a hairstyle and print it out for the barber, bring my Pentax 67, and donate his hair to a child in need. We decided to donate to Wigs For Kids. For us, it was important to do this and it was important to use it as a learning opportunity for our twins. Help others, especially other children.
Overall, it was a very good experience. My wife and I weren’t sure what to expect. He shed a few tears at the start but ended with a smile and he was one happy boy. My wife almost cried and I almost shed some tears myself. It was an emotional moment because thats all he has ever known. Mr Rod did a great job with Cassius and the experience will certainly bring us back. We got the haircuts and we walked next door for some ice cream after. Can it get any better than that?
I did bring one camera…. yup, my baby. My Pentax 67 with the 105mm 2.4 loaded with TMax 400. I wasn’t sure what the lighting conditions would be but I knew the Tax 400 could handle it without any problems. So I ended up shooting the roll at 1600 and developed it in Microphen Stock. I am very pleased with the results (although I missed focus on a few, o well).
