Twins On Film....

As the old saying goes, wisdom comes with age. It’s something I find myself thinking about once in awhile. What does it have to do with photography? Well, for me, that’s easy to answer. There was a time when I was a very young single father. Nineteen years old to be exact. There were many things I didn’t know in life, including the importance of capturing moments of my son’s youth. Yes I have photos of him growing up but looking back, I wish I had taken more. You can never have too many, well that’s how I feel at least. I wish I had an interest in photography back then but it is what it is.

Fast forward 20 years later and that young man is currently serving our country. The United States Air Force to be exact, and I am very proud of him. At home? My wife and I have 3 year old twins. Some of you already know who they are, Cassius and Chloe. Here is where the “wisdom” comes in. I am fully aware of the importance of documenting their childhood. It feels like we are taking photos a few times a week. Again, you can never have too many right? I just know that someday they’ll be able to go through all these film negatives and see what their childhood was like….on film. Which is cool!

There are those days when I sit back and take the candid photos of them playing or running around. Then there are those days I have them stand there and pose for the camera for a portrait. Sometimes that involves M&M’s but it’s always worth it. These kids can drive a hard bargain I tell ya. Yesterday, I wanted to put a roll through a new to me Pentax 67. I needed to see that the frame spacing was good to go on this camera so I grabbed a roll of FP4 and decided to shoot it at ISO 50, which I ended up developing it in HC-110 Dil B. I wasn’t sure what to expect because I never shot and developed FP4 like this before. Well, the results came out beautiful. The contrast, the tonal range, the sharpness. All there. Here are a few photos from yesterday’s “photo shoot” with my 3 year old twins.
